An Innovation Enablement Strategy for a Sustainable Innovation Ecosystem Anchor
The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone was looking to re-establish its Techno Hub as a sustainable innovation ecosystem for the Umhlathuze region. In accomplishing this, they required an Innovation Enablement Strategy that would assist them in developing technologies and services for serving the innovation aspirations for entrepreneurs, academics, the public and private sector in the community.
COOI Studios was engaged by the Department of Science and Innovation and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research to undertake activities that would culminate into a comprehensive Innovation Enablement Strategy. COOI Studios began with an Empathy Phase, conducting user interviews with stakeholders to gain insights into their experiences and interactions with the Techno Hub. They then progressed to the Design Phase, where they organized a Design Thinking Workshop to collaborate and explore possible interventions to make the Hub more sustainable with key stakeholders. They validated the data obtained from Empathy and Design Phase; workshops and interviews then created the Innovation Enablement Strategy, which was also validated by the key project stakeholders from Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone, Department of Science and Innovation and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.
We delivered an Innovation Enablement Strategy which included a business case, strategy and an implementation approach. This was achieved through the facilitation of interviews, workshops, and validation sessions in Richards Bay with Entrepreneurs, Academics, Private and Public Sector.
